Canadian Firefighters Memorial

The Canadian Firefighters Memorial (CFM) in Canada’s Capital region will commemorate all members of the Canadian Fire Service and especially those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Transcending all ethnic, cultural, gender and religious boundaries, the memorial will recognize the bravery and commitment of all people engaged in this essential but sometimes hazardous work.

The new memorial is intended as a national commemoration, recognizing firefighters and firefighting from all parts of the country. The CMF is to be located on a prominent site owned by the National Capital Commission at LeBreton Flats near the Canadian War Museum. This highly visible site, on Wellington Street at the corner of Lett Street, was prepared in 2009 by the NCC in anticipation of this monument.

The Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation (CFFF) and the National Capital Commission (NCC) invite the public and the media to a Vernissage of the Canadian Firefighters Memorial Design Concepts.

Date:  Thursday, August 5, 2010
Time:  5 pm to 7 pm
Location: National Capital Commission, Central Chambers Building lobby  40 Elgin Street, Ottawa

The monument is being made possible thanks to the fund raising efforts of the CFFF, provision of a site by the NCC and a grant from the Department of Canadian Heritage, the announcement for which was made in September 2009 by Minister James Moore.

The Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation was created to honour and remember firefighters who have been killed in the line of duty and to support their families. The CFFF is a registered charity and operates by fundraising. For information regarding the Canadian Firefighters Memorial, please visit: http://www.cfff.ca.
